Position Summary The New Construction Roofing Estimator owns accurate, timely takeoffs and bids for new construction roofing projects at Tarrytown Roofing. This role is the front line of our new construction pipeline: pulling plans, running takeoffs, building competitive proposals, and following up with GCs until we win the work. The right person blends old-school estimating discipline with modern AI and takeoff tools to move faster and more accurately than the competition. This is not a sit-and-wait estimator role. We expect proactive GC follow-up, sharp organization, and a continuous read on which suppliers and trade partners are giving us the best pricing and service. The estimator is also a feedback loop capturing why we win or lose, and using that to refine our partner roster and pricing strategy. Core Responsibilities Perform accurate roofing takeoffs from plans for new construction projects (residential and commercial as applicable). Use modern takeoff and estimating software PlanHub, Bluebeam Revu, and other industry tools to compress turnaround time. Leverage AI tools to accelerate plan reading, quantity takeoff, scope drafting, and proposal generation. Build clean, professional bids that reflect Tarrytown Roofing's standards clear scope, exclusions, and assumptions. Maintain estimating templates, unit pricing, and assemblies and keep them current. GC & Builder Follow‑Up Track every bid submitted; follow up with each GC and builder on a disciplined cadence until award or loss. Build relationships with key GCs and builders be the easiest, most responsive estimator they work with. Document feedback on every bid: why we won, why we lost, what the spread was, who beat us. Surface market intelligence (pricing trends, competitor behavior, scope shifts) back to leadership weekly. Maintain a current roster of suppliers and trade partners with documented pricing, lead times, and quality notes. Continuously evaluate partners based on real performance data — pricing, service, on-time delivery, and feedback from the field. Recommend changes to the partner mix when better options emerge; document the rationale. Negotiate pricing and terms where appropriate; collaborate with operations on supplier selection. Maintain an organized bid log and pipeline every projects status, due date, decision date, and follow-up next step is visible at a glance. Keep digital files clean: plans, takeoffs, proposals, and correspondence filed consistently. Hit bid submission deadlines without excuses; communicate proactively if a bid is at risk. Use AI tools to speed up plan review, scope writing, RFI drafting, and proposal generation. Pilot new AI-powered takeoff and estimating tools as they emerge; bring forward what works. Identify and document workflow improvements that reduce estimating cycle time without sacrificing accuracy. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with the Sales Directors, Project Managers, and field operations to ensure bids reflect real-world build conditions. Hand off awarded projects cleanly to operations with full documentation. Participate in weekly pipeline and bid-review meetings. Qualifications 3+ years of new construction roofing estimating experience (residential and/or commercial). Proven proficiency with PlanHub and Bluebeam Revu; demonstrated experience with at least one estimating/takeoff platform. Strong plan-reading skills able to interpret architectural, structural, and roofing details accurately. Track record of GC and builder relationships and follow-up discipline.
