Job Description We are seeking an early-career Open-Source Compliance Engineer to support Lenovo’s global development teams in managing and ensuring compliance of open-source software used across multiple firmware and software projects. This role requires strong communication skills to collaborate with worldwide teams—including Development TPMs, Software Engineers, and Product Assurance groups—along with foundational technical knowledge of software development processes. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of open-source methodologies, awareness of common OSS licenses, and familiarity with firmware/software development concepts. Full English fluency is required due to daily global interactions. Job Responsibilities Collaborate with global development teams (US, Asia, Europe) to track open-source component usage across multiple firmware and software projects. Review open-source software (OSS) submissions for license compliance, correctness, and completeness. Support the Open-Source Engineering processes, ensuring adherence to Lenovo’s compliance workflows. Maintain accurate records of OSS requests, approvals, and documentation in compliance tracking tools. Provide guidance to development teams on OSS methodology, licensing implications, and best practices. Identify compliance gaps and work with development teams to drive timely resolution. Assist in creating or updating internal documentation, training materials, and process guidelines. Prepare compliance reports for audits, releases, and internal reviews. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to compliance workflows and tooling. Skills / Qualifications Required Qualifications Strong English fluency (written and spoken) to interact with global teams. Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). Understanding of firmware and/or software development life cycles. Familiarity with open-source methodologies (contribution models, communities, version control practices). Basic understanding of source code structure, build processes, or programming fundamentals. Ability to manage multiple simultaneous requests across different projects. Strong attention to detail and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications Awareness of common open-source licenses (MIT, BSD, GPL, LGPL, Apache, etc.) and their usage implications. Experience with code scanning tools or compliance platforms (e.g., FOSSology, Black Duck, FOSSA). Exposure to firmware development, embedded systems, or Linux environments.
