BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently seeking a Prototype Buyer to join our PowerDrive System business unit team. The Prototype Buyer will be responsible for quoting, negotiating, selecting, and placing purchase orders for all prototype components and outside services. Responsibilities Organize the Prototype Procurement kick-off meeting (PKO) with the program team to discuss the build schedule, potential design risks, and any required component expediting. Define the sourcing strategy and start a new prototype program tracking sheet to manage the daily program activities. Send request for quote (RFQ) package to qualified supply base which includes 2D print (released or unreleased), 3D model, specifications, quantity, and material requirement date (MRD). Review all supplier quotes and identify leverage opportunities for negotiations. Schedule technical review meeting for any design risk components (e.g., castings, shafts, gears, and sprockets). Select a supplier that is most competitive and capable of supporting the program’s requirements. Complete and submit the purchase requisition to start the SAP workflow purchase order approval process. Approval requests over $20,000 require a Prototype Supplier Nomination Form to be submitted. Send sourcing package to selected supplier which includes approved purchase order, released 2D print and 3D model, specifications, signed team feasibility commitment (TFC) form. Selected supplier must provide sourcing package confirmation to the Prototype Buyer. Compliance with capital project (CAPEX) budget and expense budget. Update the program tracking sheet accordingly. Follow up with the supply base for status updates on sourced components. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Experience: At least 3 years of experience in purchasing or project management in the automotive industry. Technical knowledge: Purchasing, negotiation, project management. Ability to work across functions within a team to drive results and with multicultural teams. Other requirements: Microsoft Office, SAP, ERP.
