Main Purpose To execute research and development analyses, formulate new products, and optimize existing formulations for the Phthalic Anhydride, Plasticizers, and Fumaric acid plants, as well as perform instrumental characterization to support product development and technical service activities. Key Responsibilities Design and execute research and development activities in alignment with departmental strategic objectives. Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis using appropriate analytical tools and techniques. Interpret experimental results to support new product development and optimization initiatives. Prepare clear and accurate technical reports, scientific documentation, and presentations to communicate results and findings. Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, methodologies, and internal procedures throughout all research activities. Monitor project progress and evaluate results to provide feedback and propose technical improvements. Support continuous improvement of research methodologies, testing protocols, and laboratory practices. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including R&D, operations, quality, sales, and commercial, as well as technical service functions. Complexity of the Job Scope: Responsible for executing formulation and development analyses for plasticizers, fumaric acid, phthalic anhydride, and new chemical developments, including the evaluation of new raw materials through pilot‑scale activities at the Altamira pilot plant within the Mexico Compounds Business. Perform assigned activities in compliance with the requirements and guidelines of the FSSC 22000 version 6 standard. Participate in training and awareness activities related to FSSC 22000 v6 to ensure understanding and proper application of the standard. Internal and External Relationships Internal Relationships Chemical Development, Sustainability and Regulatory Compliance Manager – To align research, development, and formulation activities with strategic objectives, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance requirements. Chemical Development Supervisor – To coordinate research activities, prioritize development tasks, and ensure alignment with project objectives and timelines. Research Technicians – To execute laboratory testing, experimental activities, and data generation in support of development and optimization projects. Regulatory Affairs Researchers – To ensure new developments, raw materials, and formulations comply with applicable regulatory requirements and documentation standards. Plasticizers Production Superintendent – To support process optimization, scale‑up activities, and technical validation related to plasticizers production. Phthalic Anhydride and Fumaric Acid Production Superintendent – To provide technical support for production processes, troubleshooting, and implementation of development or optimization initiatives. Compounds Quality Assurance Superintendent – To ensure development activities comply with quality standards, specifications, and internal quality management requirements. Safety Supervisors – To ensure research and pilot plant activities are performed in compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements. Compounds Quality Assurance Supervisor – To coordinate quality controls, testing requirements, and validation of materials, formulations, and processes. Maintenance Supervisor – To coordinate maintenance support for laboratory and pilot plant equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Sales and Customer Service Area – To provide technical support, address customer requirements, and support product development and optimization aligned with market needs. Procurement – Internal – To support sourcing, evaluation, and availability of raw materials, consumables, and services required for development activities. Procurement – External – To evaluate new raw materials, obtain technical information, and support development and qualification of alternative or innovative inputs. Preferred areas of study: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics, or related disciplines. Desirable additional studies: master’s degree in chemical sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Processes, Statistics, or related areas. Language Skills Proficiency level: Intermediate to Advanced (reading technical documentation, preparing reports, and basic technical communication) Knowledge and Experience Areas of experience: Instrumental Quality Assurance Laboratory, Production Engineering within chemical process environments, Experience supporting or conducting research and development activities Years of experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in laboratory, production, or R&D environments within the chemical industry. Physical Requirements Ability to perform laboratory and pilot plant activities, including standing for extended periods. Adequate visual acuity for laboratory work, data analysis, and equipment operation. Ability to handle laboratory equipment, samples, and materials in compliance with safety requirements. Capability to move within laboratory, pilot plant, and production areas as required by assigned activities.
