Summary Direct Quality Engineers operating within their area of responsibility with a high level of efficiency, integrity and enthusiasm, striving to achieve excellence in all endeavors. They represent the quality function of technical support, in conjunction with other internal support groups, concerning issues affecting manufacturing on global customer accounts. Leadership and Management Responsibilities Recruit and interview Quality Engineers and Technicians. Coach Quality Engineers/Technicians in the interviewing/hiring process. Monitor team member turnover; identify key factors and make improvements. Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis. Create or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility. Coach and mentor Quality Engineering staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer. Establish clear measurable goals and objectives to determine individual and team results. Solicit ongoing feedback from managers and peers; provide coaching and counseling. Express pride in staff and encourage them to feel good about their accomplishments. Perform team member evaluations professionally and on time. Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve key operational metrics and achieve organizational goals. Coordinate activities of large teams and keep them focused during crises. Ensure recognition and rewards are managed fairly and consistently. Provide a communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information with the department. Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use appropriate business style. Ask questions; encourage input from team members. Assess communication style of individual team members and adapt own style accordingly. Functional Management Responsibilities Know and understand campus strategic directions. Define, develop and implement Quality Engineering strategies that contribute to campus strategic directions. Provide regular updates to the Quality Engineering Manager on strategy execution. Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems. Utilize tools to monitor departmental cost and cost trends, continually improving value. Provide feedback to the Assistant Test Engineering Manager on cost and cost trends. Technical Management Responsibilities Develop and maintain QA plans for global new product introductions using Advanced Product Quality Planning and Process Optimization. Support all quoting activities during initial process design, development, and implementation. Evaluate and provide input to inspection processes via inspection aids and instructions. Support all global training programs specific to each customer by developing and implementing specialized training sessions. Develop appropriate systems for document storage, access, and review for global customer accounts. Review supplies, internal, and customer discrepancies; coordinate and track corrective/proactive action effectiveness. Conduct periodic review and maintenance of all documentation files; develop appropriate systems for storage and access. Coordinate corrective/preventative action efforts for supplier or customer discrepancies. Participate in vendor survey activities; drive proactive participation and aid suppliers in process improvement when possible. Interface with all departments concerning policies and procedures. Provide insight and assistance for implementing and maintaining Process Improvement and Optimization with proactive methodologies. Assist in driving standardization of manufacturing processes of global customer accounts. Provide technical support on quality issues with the customer as needed. Adhere to safety and health rules and regulations associated with the position. Comply with all company security policies and procedures.
