About the Role We are hiring for multiple backend engineering positions across core domains of our platform, spanning CRM, Search, Authorization, Integrations, and End-to-End Transaction Management. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer , you will leverage your experience building scalable distributed systems and microservices to deliver high-impact products for our customers. You will partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across teams to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems that support the growth of the world’s largest modern brokerage. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, operating in fast-paced environments, and taking ownership of systems from design through production operations. At Compass, You Will Build, develop, and scale backend platforms and services that empower real estate professionals, buyers, and sellers Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed microservices Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical decision-making Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code Improve system reliability, scalability, observability, and operational excellence Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and deployment practices Participate in code reviews and mentor other engineers through technical collaboration Troubleshoot production issues and participate in on-call rotations as needed Become a domain expert in real estate technology and customer workflows Operate in a highly collaborative Agile development environment What We Look For BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience Fluent English communication skills (spoken and written) 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience Strong experience developing high-performance applications using Go. Experience designing and building scalable microservices and distributed systems Experience with Kafka or other event-driven/message-driven architectures Experience with gRPC, Thrift, REST APIs, or other server-to-server communication protocols 3+ years of experience with AWS or other cloud platforms Strong understanding of system design, scalability, fault tolerance, and observability Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases Experience with CI/CD pipelines , automated testing, and modern engineering best practices Familiarity with containerized environments and orchestration tools such as Docker or Kubernetes is a plus Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills Passion for operational excellence, reliability, and continuous improvement Experience using AI tools to assist the creation or testing of the code, etc. Compass Offers 100% remote work environment (flexible around US time zones) USD fixed monthly compensation (through Deel) Paid local national holidays Flexible time off and autonomy in managing your schedule Mac equipment provided Opportunity to work on highly visible and impactful projects at scale Collaborative and supportive engineering culture
