Combined Cycle Power Plant Trainer / Training & Qualification Specialist is accountable for developing, executing, and maintaining a comprehensive training and qualification program for plant personnel. This role ensures that all operators and relevant technical staff are trained, qualified, and competent to safely and reliably operate a combined cycle facility in accordance with prudent industry practices, OEM manuals, control system logic, and site operating procedures. The position also provides direct support in operational troubleshooting, including event analysis and gas turbine control system behavior, and plays a key role in strengthening plant operational discipline, safety culture, and reliability. Job Responsibilities TRAINING & QUALIFICATION PROGRAM Develop, implement, and sustain the Combined Cycle Training and Qualification Program for all operational roles (Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, HRSG, BOP, and Control Room personnel). Define training paths, qualification requirements, competency standards, and requalification cycles for each operational position. Ensure training programs align with: o Combined cycle industry best practices o OEM requirements (Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, HRSG, DCS) o Company policies and regulatory requirements Maintain training matrices and ensure personnel qualification status is continuously updated. PROCEDURE DEVELOPMENT & MAINTENANCE Review, validate, and update all plant procedures, including: o Operating procedures o Startup/shutdown procedures o Abnormal and emergency operating procedures o Control system and alarm response procedures Identify missing, outdated, or inaccurate procedures and develop new procedures as required. Ensure procedures reflect actual plant configuration, control logic, OEM recommendations, and lessons learned from operational events. Promote consistent use of approved procedures across all operating shifts. OPERATOR TRAINING & GAS TURBINE CONTROLS Deliver classroom, simulator (if applicable), and on the job training for combined cycle operations. Train operators on: o Gas turbine, steam turbine, HRSG, and balance of plant systems o Gas turbine control systems (e.g., speed, load, temperature, protection, and sequencing logic) o DCS operation, alarms, interlocks, and permissives Ensure operators understand why equipment behaves as it does, not just how to operate it. Validate operator competency through written exams, oral boards, and practical evaluations EVENT TROUBLESHOOTING & OPERATIONAL SUPPORT Support troubleshooting of plant events, trips, alarms, and abnormal conditions, with particular emphasis on gas turbine and control system behavior. Assist Operations and Engineering teams during post event reviews and root cause analyses. Identify training, human performance, or procedural gaps contributing to events and incorporate corrective actions into training programs and procedures. Provide coaching during and after events to reinforce correct response, plant understanding, and decision making. TRAINING RECORDS & REPORTING Maintain accurate, auditable training and qualification records for all plant personnel. Deliver a monthly training report that includes: o Training completed by individual and role o Qualification and requalification status o Overdue or upcoming training requirements o Identified competency gaps or risks Ensure training documentation supports internal audits, regulatory inspections, and management reviews. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT & KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER Incorporate operating experience, OEM updates, and industry events into training content. Support initiatives related to operational excellence, human performance improvement, and safety culture. Act as a technical mentor and knowledge resource for operators and supervisors. Minimum 5–10 years of experience in combined cycle power plant operations or engineering. Strong hands‑on experience with: o Gas Turbines o Steam Turbines o HRSG systems o Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Demonstrated understanding of gas turbine control philosophy and logic. Previous experience as a senior operator, trainer, or subject matter expert is strongly preferred. Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills. Education Requirements Technical degree or engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Power Generation or related discipline (preferred). English language proficiency Physical Requirements Position requires periods of intense physical exertion, including walking, climbing, and lifting. Ability to lift and move material up to 40 pounds.
