Position Summary The C&I Project Designer is responsible for supporting the technical design and development of commercial and industrial (C&I) solar racking projects for the U.S. market. This position focuses on creating accurate, code-compliant designs, generating racking layouts, Bill of Materials (BOMs), design files, and technical documentation for standard project scopes. Working closely with the C&I Project Design Manager, C&I Project Engineers and C&I Technical Coordinators, the C&I Project Designer ensures that all project requirements are met, all designs align with client specifications and U.S. codes, and all deliverables are completed on time. When projects fall outside standard design parameters, the Designer collaborates with the C&I Project Engineer to transition the project for advanced engineering calculations, PE-stamped documents, or permit package development. The C&I Project Designer also supports internal teams and customers by providing prompt, accurate technical assistance and delivering complete, high-quality documentation packages in coordination with the C&I Technical Coordinator. This is a full-time, on-site position based in our Tijuana office, requiring daily presence to support team collaboration, training activities, and coordination with cross-functional departments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Create accurate design layouts and supporting design files using approved design tools, calculators, and internal software. Review project specifications, customer requirements, and site documentation to develop racking system designs. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by addressing project-related questions promptly and delivering complete, professional documentation packages. Interpret and apply site-specific data, such as plan sets, structural reports, wind loads, and seismic loads into the racking system design. Ensure all designs comply with U.S. codes and applicable standards (e.g., ASCE 7, IBC, NEC) as well as internal engineering guidelines. Prepare bill of materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and submittal packages required for customer approval and permitting processes. Identify when a project falls outside standard design criteria and coordinate with the C&I Project Engineer for structural calculations, custom engineering, or permit package requirements. Collaborate daily with the C&I Technical Coordinator and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of design files, BOMs, and responses to customer requests. Support internal stakeholders by providing technical clarification, addressing design-related questions, and implementing design revisions when needed. Maintain accurate design records, update files per customer feedback, and document all design iterations. Participate in ongoing training to maintain proficiency in racking products, design tools, and U.S. code requirements. Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies and proposing enhancements to the design process. Perform other duties as assigned by the C&I Project Design Manager or the C&I Services Manager to support overall team and project success. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Knowledge of: Strong knowledge of solar PV racking systems design (ground-mount, rooftop, or carport), including mechanical and structural considerations. Basic understanding of structural load considerations (wind, snow, seismic), materials, and site constraints. Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks), and design/analysis tools such as Helioscope, Aurora, or similar platforms. Ability to: Must speak, read, and write fluent English to communicate effectively with U.S.-based teams, clients, and technical documentation. Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Demonstrate strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Interpret technical documents, specifications, and construction plans. Learn and adapt to new design standards, tools, and project requirements. Maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with team members, clients, and partners. Work independently with minimal supervision while staying aligned with business goals. Desired Skills Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy, Solar, Mechanical, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent technical field). Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners. High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a proactive problem-solving mindset. Previous experience in the solar industry strongly preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment Full-time availability to work on-site at the Tijuana office. Work is performed while standing, sitting, and walking. May require bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Must be able to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. Work may occasionally occur at client locations, job sites, and areas with exposure to varying weather, machinery, dust, fumes, and temperature changes. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. #J-18808-Ljbffr
