Environmental, Sustainability & Energy Engineer (SAL) Objective The Sustainability & Energy Management Specialist oversees the organization's energy management strategy and initiatives on a regional scale. The primary focus of this role is to optimize energy consumption, promote sustainability, and drive innovative solutions to reduce carbon footprint. The role will collaborate with various stakeholders, executive leadership, and plant staff, to ensure regional operations are aligned with industry best practices and environmental & sustainability goals. Main Responsibilities Energy Strategy Development: Drive Energy Roadmap, including power production, sourcing of renewable energies, fuel switch, etc., aligned with the organization’s long‑term sustainability targets and industry‑leading practices. Efficiencies and Conservation: Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency across all Nemak MEX plants and implement measures to optimize energy usage worldwide. Energy Performance: Establish and track KPIs to evaluate energy consumption trends, identify inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement. Emissions Management: Develop and implement energy strategies to minimize carbon emissions, work on long‑term reduction scenarios in scope 1 and 2 in support of the net‑zero strategy, and support and evaluate net‑zero implementation at the plant level focusing on decarbonization targets. Innovation: Evaluate key technologies against long‑term decarbonization strategy and advise on emerging energy technologies and industry‑specific trends; explore innovative solutions to optimize energy usage, replace fossil fuels with alternative technologies and reduce costs. Sustainability CAPEX: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop energy budgets, conduct financial analysis of energy projects, and ensure cost‑effective energy management strategies. Collaboration: Work closely with cross‑functional teams, local operations, maintenance & HSE managers, and external partners to foster collaboration, share best practices, and support energy initiatives. Reporting: Manage the utility data management system; prepare regular reports for executive leadership, communicating progress on energy management initiatives, achievements, and future plans. Process Standardization: Contribute to ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and ASI management systems. Position Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability (or related field). Experience: Minimum 3–4 years in Energy Management, Energy Efficiency Technologies (preferably aluminum, foundry) and legal compliance (Environment & Energy). Certifications: ISO 14001 Expert, ISO 50001 Expert, ISO Lead Auditor, and legal requirement expert. Technical Knowledge: Expertise in air emissions, hazardous substances, risk and impact management; Energy & Emissions Management; Mexican Environmental Regulations at federal and state levels; expertise in water, energy, waste. Soft Skills: Strong leadership, assertiveness, change management, problem‑solving, and negotiating. Languages: Advanced English (oral and written).
