Responsibilities Anchor daily newscasts: Lead three daily newscasts with confidence and conversational energy, keeping viewers informed and engaged. Own the story: Go beyond the desk to report in the field, bringing audiences closer to stories that impact their lives with compelling live shots and deep‑dive reporting. Drive digital engagement: Be a savvy voice on social media and online platforms, sharing breaking news and behind‑the‑scenes content where the audience lives. Collaborate with the team: Work side‑by‑side with producers and reporters to craft cohesive, multi‑platform coverage that wins the day. Represent the station: Be a true ambassador for WTVA, attending local events and building authentic relationships within the Tupelo community. Craft the narrative: Assist in writing and producing stories, ensuring every script is punchy, accurate, and ready for prime time. Qualifications Educational foundation: A four‑year degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field. 2+ years of experience: You’ve spent time in the trenches as an anchor or reporter and know how to handle the pressure of a live newsroom. Excellent communication skills: You’re a great writer who knows how to tell a story that sticks, whether it’s a 30‑second reader or a long‑form digital piece. Digital‑first mindset: You’re comfortable navigating social media and online platforms to reach our audience wherever they are. Team player attitude: You thrive in a collaborative environment and are always ready to jump in and help a producer or fellow reporter. Urgency and empathy: You care about the stories you tell and the people they affect, bringing a human touch to every broadcast. Station ambassador: You’re professional, accessible, and excited to represent WTVA in the community.
