General Summary Administers, develops and implements HS&E programs, policies and procedures to assure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, and to promote a safe and environmentally responsible facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides leadership, strategy and vision to improve the health, safety and environmental process to best-in-class performance levels. Reviews and recommends improvements in site operations that reduce health, safety and environmental risk factors. Cultivates a culture of safety among associates by promoting and maintaining a safe working environment. Conducts safety training for new hires and coordinates with department leaders to schedule refresher training programs in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations. Develops new training programs and refreshes old ones to enhance employee engagement around safety education. Updates employee training schedules and materials to reflect current training needs and maintains all training files. Interfaces with all departments to ensure employees understand their specific HS&E roles and responsibilities. Designs and markets programs to meet the needs of a safe workplace, including preparing and arranging safety exhibits and promotional materials. Implements and monitors general HS&E policies and procedures and conducts training in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations. Consults and trains supervisors and team leaders in accident and injury investigation processes, ensuring appropriate investigations, reports and incident analyses are conducted in line with corporate policy and legislative requirements. Reviews all accident, occupational illness and near-miss investigations. Conducts routine occupational hygiene investigations and ensures employees are aware of hazards from decomposition products and hazardous materials. Conducts audits of safe work practices and conditions, and coordinates and maintains all HS&E records for regulatory agencies. Maintains and updates the emergency evacuation plan and safety information centers. Performs workers’ compensation claim management, including the return-to-work program, and prepares materials for legal and insurance cases. Facilitates meetings for Ergonomic and Safety Teams to ensure they accomplish facility goals. Ensures investigations and analyses of environmental incidents, accidents and hazards comply with corporate policy and legislative requirements. Oversees handling, labeling and shipping of hazardous and non-hazardous waste; performs inspections of waste storage areas. Assists with developing waste handling procedures, waste minimization and recycling programs. Drives safety culture and initiatives to achieve annual TIR goals. Participates in the plant’s Six‑s audit program and Kaizen Blitz program. Contributes projects and ideas to manage savings according to assigned HS&E goals. Participates actively in continuous improvement tasks and simulated emergency drills. Follows up on compliance with the safety engagement walk program in operational areas. Education, Experience and Knowledge Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, or a related field. Three (3) years of HSE experience in a manufacturing environment. Five to eight years of automotive manufacturing experience preferred. Experience with machinery safety, process safety, safe equipment release, lockout/tagout (LOTO) and risk assessment. Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to health, safety and environment. ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 knowledge. Internal Auditor certification required; will be sponsored if not yet obtained. First Aid, CPR and AED certification required; will be sponsored if not yet obtained. Good verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work with a diverse group of people; team player. Skills and Abilities Proactive.
