Director, Quality – Racks, Enclosures & Metal Mechanics What a typical day looks like Define and execute the Quality Engineering roadmap aligned with business and customer objectives. Oversee quality performance metrics (DPPM, FPY, scrap, OTD, COPQ) and drive corrective actions. Lead cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain) to resolve quality issues. Implement and standardize quality systems (SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, APQP, PPAP). Ensure effective Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) processes and sustainment. Drive supplier quality management: qualification, audits, development, and chargeback processes. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) ensuring robust validation and process readiness. Develop and manage inspection strategies (incoming, in‑process, final) including automation (AOI). Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001) and customer‑specific requirements. Lead internal and external audits; ensure closure of findings. Build and sustain a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. Coach and develop Quality Engineers, Technicians, and cross‑functional teams. The experience we’re looking to add to our team Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or related field) required. Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in quality engineering within sheet metal or manufacturing environments. 5+ years in leadership roles managing multi‑site or multi‑shift operations. Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes: stamping, bending, welding, machining, painting, assembly. Expertise in quality tools: SPC, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, 8D, DOE, FMEA. Experience with metrology systems and laboratory testing (e.g., welding validation, macrography and AWS requirements). Proficiency in data analysis and dashboarding (Excel, Minitab or equivalent tools). Familiarity with ERP/MES systems and digital quality tools. Key Qualifications and Leadership Skills Results‑driven with strong analytical and decision‑making capabilities. Proven ability to lead cross‑functional and integral teams. Strong communication skills with customers and executive leadership. Change management and continuous improvement mindset. Talent development and succession planning experience. Customer DPPM reduction. First Pass Yield (FPY) improvement. Scrap and rework cost reduction. Supplier quality performance. Audit performance and compliance rate. On‑Time Delivery impact from quality issues. Multi‑site manufacturing setting (fabrication and assembly operations). High interaction with customers, suppliers, and internal leadership teams.
