Job Titl e: Embedded Software Engineer Location: Mossville, IL Duration: Long Term Client: Caterpillar Job Description : Lead design and development of autonomy software components across perception, localization, planning, and control Architect scalable, reliable, and maintainable software systems Translate algorithms and prototypes into production-grade, real-time software Drive integration with sensors, actuators, and vehicle networks (CAN, Ethernet) Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues across simulation and field deployments Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance Collaborate with cross-functional teams (robotics, AI/ML, controls, systems, safety) Ensure software quality through testing, CI/CD, and performance optimization Contribute to technical roadmaps and long-term platform strategy Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or related field 5+ years of experience in software development (autonomy, robotics, or real-time systems) Strong proficiency in C++ (required) and working knowledge of Python Experience developing large-scale, production-quality software systems Strong understanding of Linux development, multithreading, memory management, and performance optimization Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams Preferred Qualifications Experience with robotics or autonomy frameworks (e.g., ROS/ROS2) Background in perception systems (LiDAR, camera, radar, sensor fusion) Familiarity with motion planning, control systems, or state estimation Experience with simulation, HIL/SIL testing, or synthetic data pipelines Exposure to embedded systems, real-time constraints, or edge/GPU computing Industry experience in automotive, construction, mining, or industrial autonomy Knowledge of safety-critical development practices Soft Skills Strong technical communication and documentation skills Ability to mentor and lead within a distributed team environment Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, global setting Top 3 Skills Advanced C++ development Experience with large-scale, production software systems Strong Linux systems + performance optimization expertise
