The Role We are seeking a highly analytical and technically proficient Project Cost Engineer (PCE) specializing in Braking Systems to join our global team. In this fully remote position, you will be the financial and technical expert responsible for optimizing the cost structure of our braking portfolios including calipers, rotors, pads, boosters, and actuation/ABS modules. With 5 years of experience , you will utilize \"should-cost\" modeling, evaluate manufacturing processes, and collaborate with engineering and procurement teams to maximize profitability without compromising safety or regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Should-Cost Modeling: Develop bottom-up cost models for complex braking components and assemblies (e.g., foundation brakes, hydraulic controls, electronic parking brakes). Manufacturing Process Analysis: Evaluate and optimize cost drivers related to braking system manufacturing, including casting, precision machining, stamping, heat treatment, and automated assembly. Supplier Negotiations: Partner with Global Purchasing to provide technical cost breakdowns, analyze supplier quotes, and support commercial negotiations for components and tooling. VAVE & Design Optimization: Collaborate with Product Engineering during early design phases to identify Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) opportunities, balancing cost, weight, and performance. Raw Material Tracking: Monitor global market trends for key raw materials (steel, iron, aluminum, friction materials) and analyze their impact on project budgets. Financial Reporting: Track and report cost variances, engineering change impacts, and overall project cost status to global senior leadership. Qualifications & Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical discipline. An MBA or finance coursework is a strong plus. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in cost engineering, value engineering, or quoting within the automotive sector, specifically focusing on Braking Systems . Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of braking system components and their associated manufacturing processes (machining tolerances, foundry processes, friction materials). Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and specialized cost-estimation software (e.g., Teamcenter Product Costing, Facton, or similar). Ability to read 2D technical drawings and navigate 3D CAD data. Language: Fluent/Advanced English (written and spoken) is required to collaborate daily with global stakeholders and international supplier networks. Remote Capability: Proven ability to work independently, manage timelines efficiently, and communicate effectively across multiple time zones in a 100% remote environment.
