Marine Scientist Center for Research and Advanced Studies, Cinvestav-Merida Unit The Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav), Merida Unit, invites applications for a Full‑Time Researcher position in the Department of Marine Resources. Cinvestav is a public institution dedicated to cutting‑edge scientific and technological research, as well as the training of highly qualified personnel. The Mérida Unit, founded in 1980, conducts research in various areas of marine biology, including the main lines of a) Aquaculture, fisheries, and biotechnology; b) Coastal processes and management; c) Health and environmental impact; and d) Biodiversity and the function of aquatic ecosystems. The Department of Marine Resources offers high‑level master’s and doctoral programs, recognized for their academic quality, and currently has a consolidated academic community composed of researchers, graduate students, postdoctoral staff, research assistants and academic technicians. Position Description The selected candidate will join the Department of Marine Resources as a Full‑Time Researcher. He/She is expected to develop an independent, innovative, and internationally focused research project that will contribute to strengthening the Department's capabilities in one of the following areas: Socioeconomic Modeling, Ecological Modeling, Aquaculture Bioeconomics, Ecosystem Services, and Marine Biotechnology. The Responsibilities Develop original cutting‑edge research. Manage external funding for research projects. Teach postgraduate courses. Supervise master’s and doctoral theses. Actively participate in human resource development and institutional academic activities. The salary level will be determined based on the candidate's academic qualifications and experience. Requirements PhD in Biological Sciences, Marine Biology, Physical or Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology, Marine Chemistry, and related disciplines or areas. Demonstrate postdoctoral experience or equivalent. Be a member of the National Researchers System (SNII) or have sufficient elements to enter the System. Demonstrate the ability to conduct cutting‑edge research through recent publications as first or corresponding author in JCR journals. Positive, proactive attitude and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency in at least English and Spanish is required. Experience in one or more of the following areas will be especially valued: Socioeconomic modeling, Ecological modeling, Aquaculture bioeconomy, Ecosystem services, Marine biotechnology. Additional Considerations The person joining the Department must generate and develop scientific and/or technological research projects independently and collaborate on other departmental lines and projects. Part of the activities includes the training of graduate students through courses, workshops, as well as thesis advisor.
