The role is part of our expanding Global Facilities Services (GFS) project team based in Mexico City, providing immediate involvement in largescale, highly complex projects. GFS is an international practice at Burns & McDonnell that involves exciting, collaborative work across many departments and locations. Burns & McDonnell is actively recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join this segment of our growing business. This position requires an experienced mechanical engineer capable of solving complex problems requiring adaptation, modification, and innovation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. Responsibilities Coordinate with Burns & McDonnell counterparts to understand scope requirements and provide leadership to the mechanical discipline team. Design mechanical systems and equipment to support safe and efficient building operations. Advise clients on mechanical system options and requirements to meet project needs and regulatory standards. Monitor installation of mechanical systems to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety codes. Participate in developing air-side and water-side mechanical system design criteria. Review mechanical designs and specifications for equipment being purchased or fabricated. Develop concept studies and detailed designs. Inform design teams on local codes and mechanical engineering best practices. Assist Project Managers with project execution, deliverables, quality, contracts, subcontracts, proposals, and client interface. Support project schedule, scope, budget, and change management activities. Facilitate contract administration tasks including RFIs, submittals, and claim mitigation. Assist with project reporting on status, risks, and cost. Enforce engineering standards and practices. Perform all other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an engineering program. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish. Strong knowledge of mechanical design codes and applicable Mexican regulations. Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D coordination tools, and Microsoft Office. Experience leading mechanical discipline teams for large projects. Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform quality reviews of mechanical engineering documents. Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary environments. Strong attention to detail, organization, and team-building skills. Ability to devise new engineering approaches as needed. Familiarity with other building systems/disciplines and their coordination. Ability to travel locally and internationally. Preferred Qualifications 7+ years of mechanical design experience. Previous consulting experience. Experience with water treatment systems, wells, tanks, and storage. Experience supporting proposals, estimates, and planning activities. Experience with construction administration or resolving design-related field issues. Experience mentoring junior engineers or developing mechanical standards. Familiarity with U.S. design practices or multinational project delivery. Experience preparing or presenting technical papers or industry publications.
