Position Summary The Thermal Design Engineer selects refrigeration and HVAC components and defines and creates 3D models, bill of materials (BOMS) for projects related to Chilled Water Systems new product introduction. Will be expected to perform tasks with low to no supervision. The Engineer will have initiative to quickly and effectively solve problems that impact Chilled Water Systems products, and participates in design reviews with customers, engineering team members and other internal work teams. Job Description The Thermal Design Engineer works on selecting components, designing mechanical parts, and collaborating with manufacturing and suppliers to support production and testing of Chilled Water Systems. Responsibilities Selection of refrigeration and HVAC components (e.g., compressors, EEV, heat exchangers). Create reliable designs and 3D models and 2D drawings for mechanical components using Creo and Solid Edge; knowledgeable in piping design using CAD tools; proficient in sheet metal design. Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations during testing and production. Contribute to multiple ongoing projects and switch tasks as needed. Work directly with manufacturers and vendors to fulfill component selection. May oversee and advise on design of others as needed. Qualifications 7+ years of experience selecting refrigeration and HVAC components, preferably in Chillers or similar products. Proficiency in CREO, Solid Edge or equivalent CAD system; desired expertise with pipe modeling. Self-starter with strong problem solving, responsibility, and commitment to excellence. Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem solving skills. Understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics at a degree level. Fluency in English (read, write, speak). Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word). Ability to read, interpret, and produce technical drawings (ASME Y14.5). Effective communication at all levels; ability to understand and produce drawings; ethics and integrity; forward‑looking design sense. Team‑oriented attitude. Physical & Environmental Demands When required to support factory operations, must wear safety equipment (boots, gloves, sleeves, helmet, safety glasses). No other physical or environmental demands.
